A study quoted a recent article over on medical news today shows that spinal manipulation (what chiropractors practice, adjusting the spine) is just as effective in treating the symptoms of sciatica as microdiskectomy.
This comes as no surprise to us, since we have been treating patients suffering from sciatica for years using chiropractic adjustments, and have been witness first hand to how it has helped our patients. Being at the forefront of treating an issue that has and will effect most people at some point in their lives.
We use a cutting edge approach to treatment, along with Chiropractic, we also have a physical therapist and a massage therapist, along with an MD, these medical professionals combine a range of techniques from across their disciplines to help treat painful, often chronic conditions. We have helped many people who had come to us with a feeling of hopelessness and we helped them turn their lives around and got them back to enjoying their live, without constant pain.
Sciatica can be a very painful and debilitating condition. However Sciatica isnt a condition itself, instead it is the name for the symptoms of radiculopathy, which is essentially a description for a condition in which a nerve is impinged upon by a herniated or bulging disc in the back, resulting in lumbar pain accompanied by leg pain, numbness and even loss of range of movement. Sciatica can also be caused by nerve irritation by the piriformis muscle, which can be simpler to treat than sciatica caused by radiculopathy.
The study was conducted by a Chiropractor and a Surgeon, and was the first randomized trial that directly compared spinal manipulation and surgery with patient results. The result was something we have been aware of for a long time.
